MINNEAPOLIS – (Business Wire) General Mills has created liveglutenfreely.com to provide consumers with information on gluten-free products and gluten-free recipes. The site lists General Mills products labeled gluten-free and features kitchen-tested recipes for preparing an array of gluten-free foods.

“One of the most frequent inquiries our customer service department receives is ‘What products are gluten-free?’” says Katie Lay, marketing manager, General Mills Health and Wellness division. “Consumers should always consult product labels prior to purchase, but our new website can give them 24/7 access to information about General Mills’ gluten-free products. We also created an electronic newsletter by the same name that consumers can subscribe to when they visit liveglutenfreely.com. Gluten-free product information and gluten-free recipes will be sent directly to their inboxes.

“General Mills is one of the leading food manufacturers responding to consumers concerned about gluten,” says Lay. “We recently launched a line of Betty Crocker gluten-free dessert mixes, and we have many additional products labeled gluten-free. For example, our Yoplait yogurt, LÄRABAR fruit and nut bar, Betty Crocker Fruit Snack, and Chex cereal product lines all contain several gluten-free items. All this information is included on our new site. Anyone who has adhered to a diet of any kind knows that it’s easier when there are a variety of foods to choose from and recipes to help you.”

Michelle Tucker, M.S., registered dietitian and senior scientist of the Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition, says liveglutenfreely.com is a great resource for the one in nine U.S. households watching, reducing or avoiding gluten intake. “The web site is an excellent tool to help the growing number of consumers seeking information on gluten-free foods,” says Tucker. “But consumers need to remember that it’s essential to always read ingredient listings and look for the words gluten free near the nutrition and ingredient list on package labels before adding a food item to their shopping cart.”

Wish someone would do something like this in UK!!

    Shannon Copeland King
Good..wish all Products would catch on, Health food stores are expensive.

    Yvonne Mikulencak
Glutten has nothing to do with Autism.. has to do with anyone who has an intolerance for Glutten.

    Lora Bates Farley
    Awesome. Thanks for sharing.

    Shannon Behric
I completely agree with Yvonne. Gluten has absolutely nothing to do with Autism. Many studies have shown that the most effective tool in combating Autism is behavioral therapy.

    Kasey Wilson
That’s total bullshit. That’s like saying….”well, let’s give cancer patients behavior therapy and see if it makes their cancer go away.” And before you get mad at me for comparing the two… remember, there is a link. Heavy metal toxicity and poor detoxification pathways?

My son is SICK!!!!!!!!!! And…if we’re gonna work off a gluten … See Moreintolerance…. we need to rename autism as well. Autism is catch all phrase. Our “autism” is a vaccine injury. Our autism is brain inflammation & mitochondial dysfuncton, Our autism is leaky gut and colitis. Out autism heavy metal toxicity and autoimmune disease. Our autism is seizures… Our gluten intolerance is from “heavy metals & virus in the gut.

While we’ve done ABA therapy… I am not sure how much behavior therapy can fix a biological disease. Therapy was second to biomedical for us. Once you start to get to the root of your child’s autism…then, and only then… is therapy effective. Lord knows I dont’ want to point to my noise and name an animal on prompt for an M & M if I haven’t pooped in two weeks.

    Kasey Wilson
Exactly how do you combat autism anyways?

    Yvonne Mikulencak
autism is not a disease nor is it like cancer… one needs not combat autism.. its simply a different operating system.. not a disease. .ignorance is a disease far worse

    Yvonne Mikulencak
Shannon I have NT friends who have Gluten issues.. its a problem unto itself… not a part of autism

    Yvonne Mikulencak
There are certain parents I am going to “hide” because they are just trolls and/or a waste of my time. SO if I do not respond to insults.. that is the reason why.. They don’t deserve a response… they are out.

    Kasey Wilson
WHile I would love to argue with you… I choose not. I will say…that this “catch all phrase” that docs are throwing on our kids….. isnt’ the same for everyone. I think there are a few rainmen out there…but what my son has, and a few others down the road is something totally different. And please dont’ throw the ignorance craip on me. We live with ignorance all around us every day.

    Yvonne Mikulencak
    Good they are blocked…

    Kasey Wilson
Autism is more like cancer than you will ever know. Just because my son hasn’t dropped dead doesn’t mean they dont’ share a common bond. How many autistic children have you held in your arms? Because I’ve got two…. who share the same medical issues. I am not going to try to convince you of anything. All that matters is that my son is potty trained, he is 100% verbal, inclusive in school and has come further than we dreamed. When he looses that diagnosis…we’ll see how our ‘ignorance” disease is.

    Shannon Behric
I am not saying your son isn’t sick but his digestive problems are most likely a separate issue in itself. My son was diagnosed as a nonverbal Autistic at 18 monthsl. We began ABA and Floortime right away. We also use Sensory Integration. Now at eight years old, his Autism is barely recognizable. He is completely verbal and in a regular classroom with minimal support. My two year old was also showing signs of Autism and after just six months of Early Intervention and behavioral therapy has also gained significant language amongst other skills. I have never needed to see a DAN doctor and wouldn’t because I am certain that they care more about your money than your child!!

    Yvonne Mikulencak
Its around 8 or 9, that HF AS children catch up with Aspies.. .that is the norm when the parents and schools work with them….He is on the right track Shannon…Now he just has to learn what the aspies do for social skills learning.. Acting , dance, gymnastics and self defense are all excellent.

    Shannon Behric
Oh yeah…..Autism is a Neurological Disorder and can’t even be compared to Cancer. How many children do you know that have died from Autism?? Parents who have children that are dying of Cancer would probably trade places with any one of us. You should chew on that for a while Kasey!

    Kasey Wilson
There was no need for that smartass comment, I’ve got something you can chew on…if your going to go in that direction. I am not a dumbass…I know what the freak I am doing. Floor time, ABA, SI, we’ve been there. No stone left unturned.

YOu may have masked your child’s autism for now…. but just wait for puberty. Band Aids never last, getting… See More to the root of the symptom does. THEN and only then…is therapy most effective.

When’s the last time you checked out your kids poop. WHo said I see a DAN doc? I dont’ need one of those either. Thank GOd your not in my band of mother warriors… enjoyir your gluten & flu shot this year!

    Pat Myers
How disappointing! You sound like reasonable, intelligent, articulate people and you are scrapping like children in the playground. My quote of the week is “You’ve met one Aspie (or Autie)…you’ve met ONE Aspie (Autie)” Most of our lovely children have more than one issue to contend with. I can only speak for my experience with my son, which is that for the last 7 years he has benefited from being on Gluten free, Casein free, additive free diet. I works for him alongside other interventions. His cousins, also on the spectrum are very different. QED

    Kasey Wilson
I will tell you what is more disappointing than us fighting on the playground, fellow mother warrior…the fact that we are loosing more children everyday and NO ONE in the WHO is doing anything about it nor lending an ear.

    Shannon Behric
I feel sorry for you Kasey and for your children. Have you ever heard of unconditional love? Oh…and FYI….my child doesn’t have digestive problems and hasn’t had a flu shot either. I can sleep better at night knowing that I didn’t expose him to dangerous “treatments” that might or might not work. Let me guess, next you are going to say your child’s Autism was caused by vaccinations. LOL!

    Shannon Behric
Oh yeah…. I am also glad that I am not in your band of “Mother Warriors”. I would never follow the lead of an uneducated Ex-Playboy Playmate/bad actress just because she writes a book and goes on Oprah to say she found “the cure” to Autism. How completely sad and desperate! I will continue to listen to the Doctors that are educated and actually do the research!!
